Bearden High School football team knew reversing their annual rivalry matchup against arch-rival Farragut would not be easy, especially after suffering two consecutive tough losses against West and Alcoa respectively in Weeks 1 and 2, but Friday will give them their opportunity to make that change happen.
Week 1
High school football season kicks off this Thursday and Friday in Knoxville area schools, beginning with select games on Thursday night and then full schedules on both days. We have you covered here for all these match-ups in TSSAA region games such as Halls’ match against Eastside with Landen Hensley who recently committed to UT Martin, as well as Trey Wilhite a key contributor last season for Halls’ Red Devils; Bearden takes on Cleveland Dragons who boast one of the area’s premier defensive linemen Jaheim Merriweather; this should provide great tests of both teams’ capabilities for Bearden Bulldogs.

Week 2
Bearden Bulldogs entered Thursday’s “Backyard Brawl” against arch-rival Farragut with an extended losing streak, dating back to 2018. But thanks to an emphatic fourth-quarter performance, home-standing Bulldogs were able to achieve an unexpected 21-14 win at Bearden High.
Both teams feature impressive running games with De’Jauvis Dozier leading Oak Ridge with over 1000 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns while Jayzon Thompson of Bearden boasts 963. Almani Rembert and Brandon Heyward both possess over 500 yards receiving for their respective schools.
High school football action continued across East Tennessee on a hot and muggy Friday, as teams in Knox News Game of the Week included Halls-Gibbs and Powell-Farragut as well as familiar opponents with an asterisk representing regional contests.
Week 3
After an exciting second week of high school football action that featured nail-biting victories and historic streaks being ended, Friday night is set to bring plenty of action on Varsity All Access (airing on WVLT and streaming online at wvlt.com). Knox News Game of the Week features a Class 6A matchup between West and Farragut – two powerhouses who have already begun the year strong with wins over Dobyns-Bennett and Powell respectively.
Oak Ridge has had an outstanding start on the ground this year with De’Jauvis Dozier leading them with over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns through eight weeks. Blaine Stansberry has also been an important wide receiver threat. Anderson County entered their season 0-1, yet have an expansive schedule that features Clinton returning, Bearden joining, and competing against Powell on Rivalry Thursday TV on Oct 26.
Week 4
As temperatures heat up on Friday in East Tennessee, the Knox News Game of the Week will take place at Bearden when Alcoa hosts Bearden Blue Devils in a showdown between these teams with losses to start their respective seasons and looking for their first wins of 2023. Week 5
As the 2023 high school football season has officially kicked off, we can start looking toward its remaining five weeks of matchups. There’s plenty at stake for several teams – Halls and Hardin Valley are still working toward Cinderella stories while West has put its perfect record at stake.
On Wednesday night at Blankenship Field, OEB Law Game of the Week will pit Bearden and Oak Ridge, two familiar rivals who boast strong run games: Oak Ridge’s De’Jauvis Dozier leads with over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns; Jayson Thompson of Bearden stands second with 963 yards and 14 scores.
Loudon Redskins have also been impressive this season after recovering from their overtime defeat against Maryville to post back-to-back wins, taking down Hixson on both occasions they hosted them at home – such as against Hixson on Friday.
Week 6

Bearden won its annual “Backyard Brawl” against Farragut 21-14 to start off their 2019 schedule on a strong note on Thursday night, marking their first victory over their archrival since 2018. Bearden running back Jayzon Thompson had over 100 yards rushing on this particular evening!
Hardin Valley may have seen their unbeaten streak end a week ago, but they still have an opportunity to make a statement when they take on Bearden who sit just one play away from going undefeated. Loudon looks to make up ground against Hixson while Varsity All Access offers live coverage of both matches!
Week 7
Bearden football team knew reversing an 11-year trend against arch-rival Farragut would not be easy, yet the Bulldogs came away victorious at Thursday night’s annual “Backyard Brawl.” Jayson Thompson’s two rushing touchdowns helped lead Bearden to victory while their defense held off an Admiral’s late rally attempt.
This week’s schedule features two big games in Region 2-6A: West hosting unbeaten Alcoa and Farragut at Bradley Central; both teams are looking for their first win against each other in this series. Week 8
As we enter Week 8 of Tennessee high school football season 2023, things start to become increasingly more interesting as regions separate themselves. West travels to Anderson County this week in hopes of rebounding after their 21-game win streak was broken last week against Anderson County; Bearden plays Cleveland while Farragut travels to non-region opponent Oak Ridge for games featuring an asterisk; Friday is when roughly half the teams play; click HERE for printable version and keep an eye out on results on NFHS Network!
Week 9
Week 8 of the 2023 high school football season features two pivotal games of major importance for Oak Ridge and Bearden at Blankenship Field, and Riverdale and Oakland meet in an important Class 6A state quarterfinal that could decide both teams’ fates.
West travels to Anderson County in Knox News Game of the Week in order to face a team that has won four consecutive matches and secured a playoff berth and top-10 state ranking. Also on Friday: Farragut will face Bearden while Powell faces Central for another Region 2-6A matchup that could determine its playoff berth or demise. All games kick off at 7 pm Eastern.
