How to Remove Candle Wax From Carpet

Candles are romantic, but they can leave a combination of oil and wax stains that need special treatment to remove from carpet or upholstery.

Fortunately, the wax is often similar to other common carpet stains and can be cleaned up easily with items you have in your house already. These tips can be applied to any spilled wax, and you’ll be well on your way to having a spotless, clean rug in no time.

Ice Pack

If you’ve recently spilled candle wax on your carpet, there are a few things you can do to clean it up. First, apply an ice pack directly to the stain and set it for a few minutes.

The ice will harden the wax, making it easier to remove. Then, use a butter knife to scrape away as much of the wax as possible.

Next, place a paper towel or paper bag over the stained area. The wax will transfer to the paper, and you can then vacuum up the wax.

The process can be repeated until all the wax has been removed from your rug. Once all the wax is gone, your carpet should be stains-free and look as good as new!

Butter Knife

The butter knife is a versatile utensil that can be used to cut and spread a variety of foods. They come in various sizes and can be made from different materials, including stainless steel and wood.

Choosing the right butter knife is essential for your comfort and the quality of the cuts you make with it. You can buy a butter knife online or from a flatware store.

When shopping for a butter knife, you should consider the shape of the blade and the handle. Those with a wooden handle tend to be more comfortable and blend in with the rest of your kitchen better than those made from stainless steel.

Once you decide on the best butter knife, it’s time to get to work! You’ll need a few different things to remove wax stains from your carpet. Here are some of them:

Paper Towel

Candles are a beautiful way to spruce up any home and come in various delightful fragrances. But spilled wax can be a nightmare, especially when it gets on the carpet.

Fortunately, there are several ways you can remove candle wax from the carpet without causing damage to your rug. The most effective method uses materials you already have at home, like heat and paper towels.

Start by placing a double layer of paper towel on the stain. Place two sheets of paper towel on the underside for moveable rugs and fabrics.

Next, use a clothes iron to gently warm the wax until it melts and soaks into the paper towels. Repeat the process until all of the wax is gone.

This easy-to-follow technique works for various candle wax types and can be applied to most carpets, including washable cotton, linen, and modacrylic fibers. However, if your spill contains colored wax, it may need to be treated with a dye remover.

Vacuum

Candles are romantic and lovely, but they can also be messy–especially when the electricity is out. They can leave waxy stains that aren’t pretty and often require special treatment to remove from fabrics and carpets.

If your candle spills a lot of wax and the stain is quite deep, a vacuum may be the most effective way to remove the wax. You’ll need a vacuum cleaner to pick up small polish pieces and a dull butter knife to scrape the hardened layer off your carpet.

Once you’ve removed most of the wax, you can use a dry towel or paper bag to rub the stain gently. Using a hot iron over a brown paper towel or blow dryer with a few clean white towels works well, too; apply the heat and dab and absorb it. You’ll need to repeat this process until all the wax has been absorbed.
